Ride the London Eye

THE London Eye, on the banks of the Thames near Big Ben, is the world’s tallest observation wheel and one of London’s most popular tourist attractions with more than 10,000 visitors a day.

Constructed to celebrate the new millennium in 2000, the half-hour ride -- the London Eye operators call it a “flight” -– takes you in a slow-moving capsule up to a height of 135 metres above ground, where you can spot all the London tourist attractions. Look to the south and see Westminster Abbey, look to the west to see Buckingham Palace…

The London Eye experience takes about 30 minutes and you are free to walk around the capsule. On a clear day you can see for up to 40 kilometres.

When you arrive, don’t be surprised by the long queues. Before you reach the wheel you have to go through a security check. And after the ride, take a walk along the embankment where performers in fancy costumes entertain the crowds. Note that the London Eye is closed for one week in January for routine maintenance.
